This section is the depository of the vast printed collections of the University of Santo Tomas of approximately 30,000 volumes of historical materials such as: Rare Books from 1492 through 1900; Filipiniana Rare; Rare Periodicals; Rare Legal Collections, Medical Books and Books on Pharmacy.
Presently, the UST Miguel de Benavides Library is engaged into a remarkable project called Lumina Pandit II (spreading the light) which is being supported by the UnionBank of the Philippines. This sustainable project focuses the inherent value of the Heritage Library collections. It consists of three major components: conservation, digitization, and publication of the rare collections as well as the Archives collections.

UST Heritage Library
Located at the fifth floor of the UST Miguel de Benavides Library building, the UST Heritage Library was inaugurated on January 28, 2006. It is supported by a grant from the family of the late Ambassador Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. The Section was named after their grandfather, Antonio Vivencio del Rosario, an outstanding Thomasian, and the former Secretary General of UST (1854-1866).
Guidelines on the Use of the Collection
I. Library Users and Access
The Heritage Section is open to researchers from Tuesday, Thursday-Saturday; 8:00am-12:00nn and 1:00pm-5:00pm. Access to its facilities and collections are subject to library policies and procedures.

Referral/Request Letter for the Use of the Section
1. Include the purpose of visit, exact date of the visit, subject of research, list of materials to be used and researcher's contact numbers. It should be addressed to:

2. May be sent personally to the Library Administration office (2nd floor) or thru email, postal mail or fax at (632) 8-740-9709. It should be sent at least three days before the intended visit.
3. Valid only for one academic semester. Researchers who wish to continue consulting the library collection on the same research topic are required to submit a new request letter.
II. Guidelines
A. Upon entry to the Heritage Section
1. In-campus researchers. Submit the approved request letter and a valid ID.
2. Off-campus researchers. Submit the library permit issued at the General Reference and Information Section (Ground floor) and the receipt of payment.
3. First time researchers. Fill-up the researcher's data form and submit one 2 x 2 picture. The Section keeps a database of researchers which are treated with strict confidentiality.
4. Deposit all items not essential to research at assigned locker of the Section.
5. Food and drinks are prohibited in the library.
B. Access and Use of the Collections
1. Photocopying of rare and fragile print materials is not allowed. Request for reproduction of rare materials can be made through digital scanning. For full-text hard/soft copy or few pages of a rarebook, permission must be secured from the Prefect of Libraries or the Chief Librarian.
2. Materials cannot be brought out of the Heritage Section.
3. A maximum of twelve (12) titles or twenty four (24) volumes may be consulted per visit except in cases where the size or the value of material requires individual or single use. In cases where the research will require a bigger amount of volumes, the researcher will need special permission from the Prefect of Libraries or the Chief Librarian.
4. Some materials, for reasons of conservation status, may only be accessible in digital form or facsimile.
5. Observe proper handling of library materials. In some cases, the researcher may be required to use gloves.
6. Only pencil is to be used when taking notes. Researcher may also use his personal laptop inside the library.
C. Upon exit from the Heritage Section
1. Any time that the researcher leaves the Section, he will allow himself to be checked by the librarian-in-charge.
2. If the researcher wants to leave the Section, even for a short period, he should return the borrowed books to the librarian-in-charge, otherwise, he will not be able to retrieve his valid ID card or library permit.
D. Reprographic Services
1. The reprographic services for rare print materials provide researchers with a digital and/or printed format of "fragile yet useful collections" of the library.

2. The requesting party should give the staff ample time to scan the materials.
3. For the soft copies of photographs, a maximum of five may be allowed to be sent thru e-mail; large files should be stored in a blank CD.
4. A billing statement and/or quotation shall be sent to the requesting party prior to the payment. Also, payments shall be made prior to the delivery of the request.
III. OBSERVATION TOUR
Submit a letter of request which indicates the following:

IV. For Photoshoot/Filming Venue
Submit a letter of request which indicates the following:
name of department/college/faculty/institution/company
name of person
list of photo equipment that will be used within the library premises
purpose of photo shoot and/or filming
exact date and time
Address the letter to the Prefect of Libraries / Chief Librarian.
The copy could be sent to the Library Administration Office (2nd floor) or thru email, postal mail or fax at (632) 8-740-9709. It should be sent at least three days before the intended photoshoot/videoshoot.
The requesting party will be informed once the letter has been approved.
On the day of the photoshoot/videoshoot
Costume preparation and other related activities must be done outside the library.
Only the essential materials/equipment needed in the photoshoot/videoshoot should be brought in the area. Bags and other unessential items must be placed in the locker provided in the Section.
Use of intense lights are not allowed; a light diffuser is required.
A copy of the produced photo or film must be given to the library for archiving purposes.
Pay the library fee of Php100 / per visit.
Catalogue of Rare Books
The Antonio Vivencio del Rosario UST Heritage Library is indeed a depository of rich historical bibliographic materials and it continuously carrying out its mission to preserve the past for the enlightenment and benefits of the present and future generations. For this reason, the publication of the six (6) volumes of the Catalogue of Rare Books have been initiated to provide people a deep understanding to the many interesting historical materials stored in the library with equally interesting annotations.
