OPAC

The Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) is the key to the Library collections. It contains information about the books, periodicals, audiovisual materials and CD-ROMs in the Library.

SEARCHING THE ONLINE CATALOG

  • Choose from: Author, Title, Subject, Keyword or Call Number
  • Type your search terms in the text box
  • Press “Enter” or click “Search”

SEARCHING THE CATALOG BY TYPE

AUTHOR SEARCH

    Search for personal authors, organizations, conferences and government departments.
    (for personal authors, type surname first)
    Examples:
  • Chang, Raymond
  • Alip, E.

  • (for government departments, type name of country first)
    Example:
  • Philippine Bureau of Customs

TITLE SEARCH

    Search the titles of books, periodicals, CD-ROMs, videos, etc. Type the title starting with the first important word. Article at the beginning of the title is disregarded.
    Examples:
  • Journal of clinical microbiology
  • Chemistry
  • Real estate documents

SUBJECT SEARCH

    Library materials are assigned Library of Congress Subject Headings. Type a subject heading beginning with the first word.
    Examples:
  • Fables collections
  • Computer security
  • Philippine history

KEYWORD SEARCH

    Search keyword in: title, organization name, subject heading, summary and table of contents. To search, type a phrase or type keywords combined with Boolean operators (like AND, OR and AND NOT) and parentheses().
    Examples:
  • Human resource management
  • (food OR nutrition) and (report AND NOT annual)
  • Words with different endings may be searched with a wildcard.
    Examples:
    Use an asterisk (*) to match up to 5 characters
  • Transport*
  • (Searches ‘transport’, ‘transportation’, ‘transporting’, ‘transports’)
    Use ** to match any number characters.
  • National ident**
  • (Searches ‘national identity’, ‘national identities’, ‘national identification’, etc.)
    Use ? to replace a single character in a word.
  • Wom?n
  • (searches “woman” and “women”)

CALL No. / ITEM CALL NO. SEARCH

    The Call No. indicates the physical position of the item on the library shelf.
    Examples:
  • RS201 M721
  • QD31.2 C362 2002

MODIFY SEARCH/LIMIT THIS SEARCH

    These functions help to narrow your initial search by picking out a smaller set of records according to criteria such as: Material Type; Location; Publisher; Keywords in Title, Author or Subject; and Year of Publication.
  • After doing a search, click Advanced Keyword Search.
  • Decide the criteria and type/select the appropriate information in the boxes/pull-down menus.
  • Then click Search

HYPERLINKS IN FULL RECORD

    Click on a hyperlink in a full record to perform search on a particular author, subject or call no.

PRINTING RECORDS

You may print any record or list of records displayed on the screen. Use the Print command of your browser. For Internet Explorer and Netscape, select File-Print or click on the “Print” icon. Before printing a list of titles, click on Extended Display titles to show locations and call numbers.

EXPORTING RECORDS (to Disk or by E-mail)

    You may export records from the catalogue by downloading/saving them to a diskette/hard drive or sending them to an e-mail account.

PLACING A RESERVATION

You may place a reservation on a title when it has been borrowed by another user. In the full record display of the title, click Request. In the form that appears, enter your name, student/faculty/employee ID number. You will be notified when the book is ready for pick up. Reservation can only be done for materials issued for 3 and 7 days. Materials issued 1 and 2 days cannot be reserved.

VIEW YOUR OWN RECORD

    At the LORENZO or ONLINE CATALOG menu page:
  • Click on View Own Record
  • Type your name, student/faculty/employee ID number
  • Click on items currently checked out.
