The UST Miguel de Benavides Library houses rare, historical and important books and documents which serve as eloquent witnesses to the important role of the University in nurturing the minds and values of the people who contributed to the birth and growth of the Philippine nation for centuries. Over the years, these timeless treasures have become fragile and dilapidated, others need minor repairs and others require extensive help. Since 1996, the UST Library has been restoring its significant rare collections with the help of its benefactors. These historical collections have been cherished since then. Book restoration is an expensive endeavor and is difficult to sustain with only limited resources. Thus, the Library initiated the Sagip-Aklat: Rare Books Sponsorship Program. It is designed to provide extra resources to build the fund for conservation and restoration of the Library’s old, rare, and historic books by donating funds to support the repair of one or more items. It is also an opportunity for others to contribute to the preservation of the rich heritage of the Philippine nation. Objectives: 1. To provide assistance to the restoration of the library’s rare and priceless books; 2. To extend the useful life of the library’s rare and historical collections; 3. To protect and save the nation’s/world’s knowledge for future generations; and 4. To generate a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards the appreciation of the importance of preserving rare and historical books and documents. Sagip-Aklat (Rare Books Sponsorship Program) Appeal for Support When you participate in the Sagip-Aklat: Rare Books Sponsorship Program, you significantly increase the Libraries' ability to restore and preserve significant rare books. Your generous donations will help us to protect the nation’s / world’s knowledge for future generations. It will have a lasting impact by preserving both the physical items and the quality of the library collections. And remember, these books passed through the hands and eyes of our most beloved students, like Dr. Jose Rizal, Apolinario Mabini, Emilio Jacinto, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Jacinto Zamora, Jose Burgos, Claro M. Recto, presidents, lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, martyrs and saints, ordinary citizens, men and women of our country browsed these books and were nourished by their contents. We appeal to generous citizens to help us keep this national heritage. Your support is an offering of gratitude to God’s “unending grace.” Below are the most urgently needed Filipiniana books which are in need of action:
